Waikato-Tainui Governance Update

Te Hoe o Tainui marae representative Tukoroirangi Morgan has been re-elected as Chair of Te Arataura, the executive branch of Waikato-Tainui for a third term.

Tuku says it’s a significant time for the iwi as it navigates its way through a landscape fraught with barriers toward achieving the milestones set out in its long-term strategy Whakatupuranga 2050.

“This will be my final term in the executive, and I want to lead a team that welcomes diversity of thought that places our people in the front and centre of everything that we do,” says Tuku.

“We welcome five new members to this executive including a returning member from a previous term and they bring an exciting arsenal of new skills and expectations to the table which will enhance the current direction of travel.”

Parekawhia McLean (Te Papa-o-Rotu Marae) will carry out the Deputy Chair functions on the executive and adds a wealth of governance experience to the role.  She has lead Te Whakakitenga o Waikato, the tribal parliament and this is her second term as an executive member of Te Arataura.

Parekawhia is looking forward to supporting Te Arataura and helping reset the long-term strategic direction of the tribal entities. 

“Like Tuku I’m excited to be part of an executive that is both passionate and dedicated to delivering tangible outcomes that will make a difference to our marae and people,” says Parekawhia.
