#Taiao Grant 🌿

The Taiao grant is awarded to projects that align with the Vision and Strategy for Waikato Awa, and the objectives set out in the Waikato-Tainui Environmental Plan (Tai Tumu, Tai Pari, Tai Ao). Contestable fund to assist tribal members build capacity to practice Kaitiakitanga, to assist marae and tribal environmental practitioners in the planning and the implementation of environmental aspirations.

Te Kooraha Marae made great use of raakau Maaori through support of the Taiao grant, (100) of these raakau were given to them, as a koha from Swampfrog Tree Consultants.

We engaged Swampfrog Tree Consultants to offer Macrocarpa raakau in December 2021, the Macrocarpa were estimated to be around 80 years.

Haere mai ki ahau, ki Maniapoto! - E tuu e Maniapoto,

Kumea mai ngaa iwi ki roto i ngaa mahi kia kotahi raa 💚

It is a prestigious day for the descendants of Ngaati Maniapoto me ngaa iho whakarei o Te Nehenehenui.

Today, Ngaati Maniapoto have arrived by the hundreds at the doors of parliament house in Wellington to hear the third reading of the Maniapoto settlement bill. A settlement that has been processed with Ngaati Maniapoto for the past 30 years, and therefore will be a significant day for those whaanau that have been involved since its inception. It will especially be an occasion that will showcase the next phase for our whaanau, and many more of our hapuu/iwi around the motu begin their journey to have their whenua be returned to Mana whenua.

To recognise this auspicious occasion - Anei te hiki wairua mo te raa nei.

Kua puu ko te ruha e hao ko MANIAPOTO! 🌿💚

1 – Te Uranga Pihama (Kaitumutumu)
2 – Ashlee Aspinsall (Maketuu, Aaruka, Te Kooraha)

Mokopuna Ora is a kaupapa that we worked on to reconnect our kids subject to state care.

Its been a long journey but we have entered into a fully resourced 5 year commitment to continue our programme. It's a $32m commitment and that will allow our mokopuna to be prioritised and reconnected. That hard work begins now.
