Te Arataura (Tribal Executive) Chair Tukoroirangi Morgan has reaffirmed support for the Government’s Three Waters proposal at day three of the Iwi Chairs Forum in Taupoo. “As kaitiaki of Waikato Awa, we support all steps to protect the natural taonga that is our taiao,” says Tuku.

“While it is easy and convenient for Auckland Council and Watercare to keep increasing the water take from our tupuna awa to supply water to Taamaki Makaurau, it is not sustainable.” “All New Zealanders across the motu should have access to safe and reliable drinking water, wastewater and stormwater, and this principle overrides all others. We support efforts to keep this kaupapa at the heart of this work.”

Tuku has also been appointed Chair to the Entity A Iwi Regional Representative Group. Entity A covers 45 hapuu and iwi groups across Northland and Taamaki Makaurau, as well as four territorial authorities: Far North District Council, Whangaarei District Council, Kaipara District Council, Auckland Council.

“We look forward to engaging productively with all four Councils within the Entity A catchment in the coming months,” says Tuku.
