Auahaa Innovation Grant

The Waikato-Tainui Auahaa Innovation Grant is available to support whai rawa aspirations of tribal members or marae for innovation and startup costs. Applicants must have a 50% or more controlling stake in the business. One application per business. Reporting at the completion of the kaupapa is required.

The Waikato-Tainui Auahaa Innovation Grant supports tribal members and marae to advance their whai rawa aspirations through innovation initiatives and startup costs.

Grants are available up to a maximum of $10,000 per application. GST is not included in the grant amount.

Funding Tiers

  • Low ($1,000 – $2,500): Ideating, Concepting
  • Low/Medium ($2,500 – $5,000): Ideating, Concepting, Committing
  • Medium ($5,000 – $7,500): Ideating, Concepting, Committing, Validating
  • Medium/High ($7,500 – $9,000): Ideating, Concepting, Committing, Validating, Scaling
  • High ($10,000): Ideating, Concepting, Committing, Validating, Scaling, Establishing

Only one grant application is available per organisation.

Supporting Documents

  • Start-up Costs & Financial Plan
  • Business Plan
  • Business Bank Verification (must contain bank logo, account name and number)
  • Confirmation or conditional external funding if any.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Must be a registered Waikato-Tainui tribal member and permanently residing in Aotearoa

  2. Must have a 50% or more controlling stake in the business

  3. Identification on file (Birth Certificate, Drivers Licence or Passport)

  4. Completed application form in full

Only one grant application is available per applicant in any financial year period.

Sole discretion to accept, withdraw or defer a grant application that does not meet criteria rests with us. Decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. Incomplete applications will be withdrawn after 60 days and a new application form needs to be completed.

Most grant application payments take up to 8 weeks for processing, approval and payment (if approved). Payment is due on the 21st of each month.
