Waka Group was established in 2007 and is primarily a kaupapa maaori practice specialising in all areas of industrial, commercial, residential and educational architecture and public works. We have worked on a number of marae and iwi led projects, including papakaainga developments and cultural works.
Waka group has the capacity to work on large scale developments as well as small scale projects, and has a team of experienced designers with a wide range of skills.
We are also versed in public works and have partnered with councils on developing cultural guidelines to be implemented in their long term plans, using tikanga maaori to inform spatial considerations in the planning of their urban centres.
Waka Group has completed more than 500 individual projects, including warehouses, factories (proper crisps potato chip factory) high end residential award winning homes, new cultural facilities and offices for iwi, logging infrastructure projects, additions and alterations to school buildings and recently partnered on the interislander ferries and terminals project.
Our kaupapa is to serve our people, our communities and to promote well considered, environmentally sustainable and energy efficient buildings.
