Te Pou o Mangataawhiri is a reknown kapa haka roopuu based in Ngaaruawahia, Waikato. Established with a deep commitment to preserving and showcasing the traditions of Waikato-Tainui, the group is named after Te Pou o Mangataawhiri, a symbolic pillar of the historical boundary that represented the sovereignty and mana of the Kiingitanga.
Te Pou o Mangataawhiri is known for its powerful performances, weaving together waiata, haka, mooteatea, and poi to tell the stories of Waikato-Tainui, the Kiingitanga, and the wider Maaori communities. Our compositions often reflect themes of whakapapa, tuupuna, historical narratives, and contemporary issues affecting their people.
Beyond the stage, Te Pou o Mangataawhiri plays a vital role in the revitalisation and transmission of maatauranga Maaori, mentoring rangatahi and strengthening cultural identity through kapa haka.
