Waikare Marae is located 4 kms to the east of Te Kauwhata. The principal hapuu that associate with Waikare include Ngaati Hine, Ngaati Naho, Ngaati Pou and Ngaati Taratikitiki.
The wharenui is named Ngaati Hine and the marae connects ancestrally to Waikato awa, the maunga Taupiri and the waka collective of Tainui.
