


Te Papatapu Marae is located on the northeastern shores of Aotea Harbour, 26 kms north of Kaawhia township. The primary hapuu for this marae are Ngaati Te Wehi and Ngaati Mahuta.The previous where tuupuna was called Parewhakaruku and the whare kai called Te Wehi Kaiwakarua. Prior to that was just the one building Te Wehi Kaiwakarua . In 2019 the redevelopment of the marae saw the new whare tupuna called Nga Uri o Ngatokorua and Te Aroha oo Te Ataarua open on January 18 , 2019 by Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero Te Tua whitu The marae connects ancestrally to Tainui waka, Karioi maunga and Aotea moana, Pakoka te awa, Te Tihi oo Moerangi Te Puke Okiokinga o Nga Maatua-Tuupuna. Whanau connections all around the moan links us to Ngati Hikairo o Mokai-Kainga marae. Ngati Maahuta and Ngati Te Weehi of Maketu and Ookapu marae. Further round to Ngati Maahanga Hourua at Mootakotako marae.
