Te Oohaakii Marae is located 6 kms north of Raahui Pookeka (Huntly) on the western banks of the Waikato- awa. The principal hapuu that affiliate with this marae include Ngaati Kuiaarangi, Ngaati Mahuta, Ngaati Tai and Ngaati Whaawhaakia of the wider iwi collective of Waikato.
The wharenui is named Te Oohaakii a Te Puea, in honour of the recent ancestor Te Puea. The marae ancestrally links to Tainui waka and Waikato confederation, Taupiri maunga and Waikato awa.
