Oomaero marae is located in Whatawhata, 13 km to the west of Hamilton. The primary iwi for this marae is Ngaati Maahanga of the Waikato confederation. The whare tupuna is named Te Awaitaia and the wharekai is named Purehina. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the maunga Pirongia and the awa Waipaa.
