Hiiona Marae is located in Puketootara, Ngutunui, about 20 kms north-west of Ootorohanga. Hiiona’s principal hapuu is Ngaati Pouraahui of Ngaati Maniapoto. It connects to Tainui waka.
Hiiona consists of the wharenui Te Awananui and the wharekai Puna Aroha Puna Kai – the name ‘Hiiona’ is an English transliteration of Zion, which means ‘the righteous heart’.
