Paa Whakawairua Grant

The Waikato-Tainui Paa Whakawairua Grant is specifically designed for Waikato-Tainui Raupatu Marae and is aimed at facilitating Oranga Marae developments. The grant provides co-funding for initiatives including Marae Development Plans, Feasibility Studies, and Major Capital Works, with the primary objective of supporting the enhancement, sustainability, and long-term resilience of Marae infrastructure. Marae is eligible to receive funding for ONE Marae Development Plan (or Strategic Plan), ONE Feasibility Study, and ONE Capital Works project within a three financial year period.

Funding Categories

    Feasibility Study, Plan and Capital Works applications open 1st April 2026, close 24th July 2026.

    Marae is eligible to receive funding for one Marae Development Plan, one Feasibility Study, and one Capital Works project within a three financial year period.

    Terms and Conditions

    1. Application is on behalf of one if our 68 Waikato-Tainui Raupatu Marae

    2. Applicant is a Marae Trustee or Marae Committee Member

    3. Completed application form in full

    4. Full details of the project including expected outcomes, dates and budget

    5. Reta Tautoko - Endorsement from Marae

    6. For Feasibility Study/Plan or Capital Works Project, a Marae Development Plan is required

    7. Confirmation or conditional external funding if any

    8. Marae or Trust Bank Confirmation (must contain bank logo, account name and number)

    Only one grant application is available per applicant in any financial year period.

    Sole discretion to accept, withdraw or defer a grant application that does not meet criteria rests with us. Decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. Incomplete applications will be withdrawn after 60 days and a new application form needs to be completed.

    Most grant application payments take up to 8 weeks for processing, approval and payment (if approved). Payment is due on the 21st of each month.
