Guided fishing, foraging and feast experience, venturing out on the ocean and across the land with your hosts, Deon Muir and Karena & Kasey Bird, sisters & MasterChef winners.
Deluxe Offering: 6.5 hours
Maketuu Fishing Adventure with Deon.
Guided ocean fishing excursion – catch and collect as you learn a range of different fishing techniques during your time with Deon. A packed lunch with refreshments is included onboard.
Deluxe Add on Option (Very popular) 3-4 hours
Kaimoana (Seafood) Feast Cookout.
After your day out on the water stay a while and feel the Manaakitanga (hospitality/kindness and care) in our purpose built outdoor cooking area as we sit around the fire celebrating the day.
Feast on Deon famous curried mussel and smoked fish chowder with freshly cooked fried bread, grilled Maketu mussels with Muirs Tours secret sauce and fillet your own fish for the freshest Fish’n’Chips in town. With a smoke house at your fingertips, create your own manuka smoked fish or take in the learnings from Deon’s time in Japan as he prepares sashimi the old fashion way.
Cultural Home Hosted Dinner Experience 3-4 hours
A privately guided cultural tour and Kai (food) experience. Take in the historical landmarks of Maketu and then afterwards take in all the Manaakitanga (Hospitality/kindness and care) enjoying a hands on experience unearthing a traditional Maori Hangi at Deon’s home.
We pride ourselves in sharing Te Ao Maaori (the Maaori world view) whilst living by and demonstrating our cultural values of Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and Whanaungatanga (establishing relationships) in all that we do.
