$20Mill kete puutea divvied up between Raupatu Marae

Thursday, 19 November 2020

In 2019 Te Whakakitenga o Waikato passed a resolution to disburse a Special Marae Grant to Raupatu Marae over and above their annual grant.  The total disbursement is $20Million shared across the 68 Raupatu Marae and is available for marae to uplift as of this week (16, November 2020).

Disbursement to each marae includes a $100,000.00 baseline grant and a ‘per capita’ amount based on the number of registered tribal members to each marae as of the 1st April 2020.  For some marae, this means up to ten times the usual amount that they receive on an annual basis.

The Special Marae Grants have occurred on numerous occasions, with disbursements in 2017 and 2019, but the $20Million special grant is no doubt the highest on record and attests to the strong foundation that has been built for the iwi.  CEO Donna Flavell says “To be able to support marae with such a substantial grant to help them continue to be resilient in times of change is a great outcome, especially in 2020.”

Marae Trustee Chairs are receiving the information to uplift the grant this week, along with an investment concept resource called Growing Marae Wealth For Future Generations, to support their learning in financial investment for the betterment of their marae and in generations to come. This resource was designed for our 68 Raupatu Marae, however it’s open for anyone to assist in your investment concept learning as well, check it out here.
