Tainui, ACC renew partnership to lift health outcomes for tribe

Waikato-Tainui and ACC have committed to a renewed 10-year partnership agreement to lift health outcomes for people of the tribe.

About 16% of Aotearoa’s population is Maaori, however only 12% of all claims lodged are lodged by Maaori. This has provided an opportunity for both Waikato-Tainui and ACC to elevate their
commitment to Maaori, and specifically uri Waikato.

“I see this partnership as a way our iwi can advocate for our people, where we can co-design solutions with ACC and make a real difference. It’s about taking action” says Rukumoana Schaafhausen, Executive Chair of Waikato-Tainui.

The renewed partnership signed this week outlines how ACC and Waikato-Tainui will work together to achieve our shared aspirations in priority areas, such as health and wellbeing outcomes for
Maaori.

Activities are to include Waikato-Tainui graduate employment pathways with ACC, data-sharing and the co-design of injury prevention programmes and services that best meet the needs of the Tainui.

Scott Pickering, ACC Chief Executive says “We’ve had a positive and strong relationship with Waikato-Tainui for a number of years, and this renewed partnership agreement takes it to the next
level.

“We’re in this partnership to learn from and support each other. This is an opportunity to develop innovative ways to increase Maaori access to ACC entitlements so that as partners we create
positive long-term impact for whaanau.”
Tangible actions include a commitment to employing a minimum of six Waikato-Tainui graduates as employees over the next three years, Mr Pickering says.
