Te Papatapu Marae is located on the northeastern shores of Aotea Harbour, 26 kms north of Kaawhia township. The primary hapuu for this marae are Ngaati Te Wehi and Ngaati Mahuta.
The wharetupuna is Parewhakarukuruku and the wharekai is Te Wehi-kai-wakarua. The marae connects ancestrally to Tainui waka, Karioi maunga and Aotea moana.
