Puurekireki Marae is located 6kms to the south of Pirongia township. Its primary hapuu is Ngaati Taramatau (with affiliations also to Ngaati Apakura) of Ngaati Hikairo, sharing links also with Waikato and Ngaati Maniapoto iwi.
The wharetupuna is Marutehiakina and the wharekai is Maatire. The marae connects ancestrally to Tainui waka, Pirongia maunga and Waipaa awa.
