Makaurau Marae is located in Ihumaatao, Maangere, 5 minutes from Auckland International Airport. The principal hapuu are Te Ahi Waru and Te Aakitai of the Waiohua iwi, which affiliate with the Waikato confederation.
Makaurau Marae stands in close proximity to the Manukau Harbour. The wharenui is Taamaki Makaurau and the wharekai is Makaurau Tuarua.
