The Rangatahi Taiao Haerenga is a kaupapa designed to connect our rangatahi (ages 16-25) to te taiao. Over three days, they will embark on a journey across the Waikato-Tainui rohe, strengthening their hononga to the whenua, wai, and moana.

Each part of this haerenga will be led by mana whenua, who will share histories, maatauranga, and kaitiakitanga practices that continue to protect and uphold our environment.

Rangatahi will gain insights into the Waikato-Tainui Treaty Settlement, Te Ture Whaimana moo te Awa o Waikato, and the Tai Tumu, Tai Pari, Tai Ao Environmental Management Plan—key frameworks that reflect our iwi’s role and responsibilities as kaitiaki.

This haerenga is a space for whakapapa, whanaungatanga, and waananga, fostering koorero tuku iho and getting inspired by those who are actively working to restore and protect our lands and waters.

By standing on the whenua, paddling their awa, and sailing on the moana, they will experience firsthand the living connection we have to our taiao and our duty as future kaitiaki.

At this stage, programme details are still being finalised. If you are interested in participating, please register your interest below, and we will provide further updates closer to the haerenga dates.

Registrations close on 16 March 2026.

Please note we will be taking photos and videos throughout the duration of the haerenga for Waikato-Tainui collateral and future promotional purposes. Please advise us if you have any concerns regarding this.

This is a smoke, vape and alcohol free event.
